Botox Botulinum Toxin

Botox Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein used as injections for facial wrinkles.

Wrinkles are formed due to repeated contraction of the underlying facial musculature & dermal at the site of muscle contraction, it inhibits the release of aretylcholine at the neuromuscular junction and causes relaxation of overactive muscles which leads to smoothening of the overlying skin and thereby reduces wrinkles.

It is most commonly used for frown lines on the forehead and crow's feet at eyes (upper 1/3rd of the face) Botulinum toxin works best for dynamic wrinkles which occurs of facial expression rather than static wrinkles present at rest.

The effect of Botulinum toxin diminish over time as new receptors are formed and muslce contractility and neuromuscular signaling is restored.

The results last for 4-6 months after which the procedure may have to be repeated. Depending on the individual assessment, the dose of botulinum toxin is calculated.

It is contracindicated in patients with neuromuscular disorders, Keloidal tendencies, Body dyshophric syndrome and allergies to constituents of Botulinum toxin products.
